  • Why is Time Management Important in the PTE Academic Test for Scoring High?

PTE Academic is a globally recognized English language proficiency test that opens doors for millions of students who desire to study or work abroad. To get into renowned institutions all over the world students need to achieve the scores desired by the universities and colleges. One of the most significant aspects of obtaining a high score in PTE is Time Management.

Following are the importance of Time management in the PTE Academic test:

    Reduces the stress:

Managing stress and keeping composure becomes a difficult task while giving a limited time exam. But when you have a clear idea of which sections to do in a predetermined time frame, you automatically reduce the stress as a result. With effective time management the 180-minute test can be covered efficiently. The Speaking section has 5 tasks in 27 – 43 minutes, writing section has 2 tasks in 50 – 60 minutes, reading section has 5 tasks in 32 – 40 minutes, and the listening section has 8 tasks in 45 – 57 minutes.

    Boosts your confidence:

When you have a set time frame to answer questions, you manage your time efficiently and successfully to meet the deadline. Time management gives you a sense of accomplishment and confidence in your abilities.

Gets more done in less time:

One of the great significances of time management is that it allows you to be more productive by allocating the time categorically. As a result, you get more done in less time, which gives you time to review and make changes if necessary. For that you need to practice the same in advance as practice is the key factor in successful time management.

    Improves performance:

Having done time allocation before the test helps you to avoid making last-minute decisions and save time. You don't feel pressed for time and hastily choose whichever option feels correct. Time management helps you attain tasks at a high-efficiency level. As a result, it improves performance and helps in scoring high.

As you already know along with Time management the key to success is  Practice, Practice & Practice.

Once you feel prepared, use our Online PTE Exam Scored Practice Tests to track if you can answer the questions well within the time limit and assess your progress. You can choose the package as per your convenience. Find the details at in.pearson.com/ptepreparation

  • ApplyProof and Pearson PTE partnership to help Canada bound students

Partnership enables universities and immigration agencies to verify scores in a ‘one stop shop’ with no extra costs or additional steps for students

Wednesday May 26th 9AM London Pearson, the world’s leading learning company, has today announced a partnership with the international student recruitment platform, ApplyBoard to use its stand alone document verification platform - ApplyProof.

This new partnership will ensure that students taking PTE to study in Canada will have greater transparency and portability of their test results than ever before. ApplyProof will enable verifiers to access digital PTE results as needed, efficiently, and at no additional cost.

Immigration officials, government agencies, schools and others can require students to provide proof of English language proficiency. The ApplyProof technology affords a secure and decentralized solution to the challenge of verification. These stakeholders will be able to verify the validity of PTE test scores in seconds.

In partnership with schools, colleges, and universities across Canada, ApplyProof already enables secure, efficient verification of official student documents such as Proof of Acceptance. The partnership with Pearson adds Proof of English Language Proficiency, a giant step toward ApplyProof serving as one place to verify international student documentation.

Assia Hamdane, Pearson’s Director of PTE in Canada, said: “We are always looking for ways to make PTE an ever more beneficial, seamless and effective experience for our test takers.

“We believe our partnership with ApplyProof will help us do this by enabling students and verifiers to share and access PTE scores more quickly and easily than before.

“More widely we look forward to the benefits of our innovative partnership having a positive impact on international student migration into Canada.”

“We believe that partnering with Pearson will bring a new level of clarity, certainty, and ease-of-use to the processes for students, immigration officials, and institutions,” says ApplyProof Head, Iman Hassani.

“ApplyProof and Pearson’s commitment to interoperability makes access and verification of results transparent and efficient. For students and users, ApplyProof makes their results truly portable.

“ApplyProof enables admission and immigration stakeholders to trust the information submitted to them. All of that in a secure environment, accomplished in a matter of seconds.”

PTE Academic is accepted by over 90% Canadian Universities and colleges as proof of English language ability – 199 Canadian institutions and still growing.

    END---

  • The English test that opens the door to international study and work

Indian students are an ambitious and talented bunch. More than 750,000 people from the subcontinent studied abroad in 2018-2019, according to ICEF Monitor reports. Many of them see a university education abroad as a gateway to personal growth and international employability. In fact, it’s such a big opportunity that up to 91 percent of students still plan to find a way to study abroad, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Let’s take a look at their destinations of choice and some of the challenges they’ll face on the way.  We’ll also explore how Pearson PTE - a globally-recognised and accepted English proficiency test - is helping them get there.

    Top destinations for Indian Students

In terms of student preference, the top five destinations of choice for Indian students are the
U.S., Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

Of all the destinations, the U.S. is the biggest draw, with approximately 193,000 Indian students deciding to study there in 2019-2020. It’s a top choice if you are looking for a unique cultural experience and a wealth of opportunities.

Canada is an increasingly popular destination among Indian students - the latest figures show that approximately 170,000 choose to study there. Known for its scenic beauty and standard of living, the country offers affordable, high-quality education, a safe and secure environment, and favourable immigration policies for Indian university applicants.

The UK is still a top student destination, with world-renowned universities, a history of innovation, and a mix of urban and rural experiences. In 2019-2020, approximately 37,500 Indian students were granted study visas - a 93% increase over 2018, according to The Times of India.

Australia, too, is more in demand as a study destination, owing to its world-class education, job opportunities, and the offer of scholarships for Indian students. Around 107,000 students chose it as their study destination in 2019.

New Zealand is a small country with a big future - beautiful countryside, growing international influence, and top-quality education are just some of the reasons students choose to go there. Though only 1,600 first-time student visas were granted to Indian citizens in 2019, that represented an increase of 63% over previous years

    Studying abroad: a crucial requirement

Students who choose this path must meet a crucial requirement: They need to take an English proficiency test as part of their university admissions process, and often for residential visa and work reasons too. This means they will be tested on a variety of English language skills, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

A cursory glance at the options will uncover a number of official tests to choose from. Yet despite many of them being recognised by governments and university admissions departments, they’re not all alike.

    An Internationally-recognised test

Pearson PTE has a number of advantages over competing exam options. It offers students and job seekers a fair and flexible way of proving their English language proficiency. Most importantly, it’s accepted by thousands of academic programmes, including prestigious institutions such as Harvard Business School, INSEAD and Yale. It’s also recognised by the governments of Canada, the UK, USA, Australia, and New Zealand

On top of all this, Pearson PTE stands out from the crowd for a number of important reasons:

    1. Pearson PTE offers unparalleled flexibility: It can be booked as little as 24 hours in advance of a test session, 365 days a year. Testing is also available in more than 350 test centres in over 70 countries. That means busy candidates can take advantage of the test when they have a last-minute opportunity.
    2. It’s (really) fast: Sometimes test-takers just don’t have time to wait around for results - job offers and university places can expire quickly. Pearson PTE typically delivers results in two days, so there’s certainly no hanging around nervously waiting for the final score.
    3. It’s fair: Candidates do not interact with human examiners because everything is done on the computer and scored by artificially intelligent software. With 25 years of solid research behind it, Pearson PTE machine marking is as accurate as a human examiner. Moreover, computers have no unconscious biases and so only mark the answers - not a candidate’s accent, appearance, or opinions.
    4. Finally, Pearson PTE test-takers have the freedom to send their score to the institutions of their choice an unlimited number of times, at no extra cost.

Pearson PTE has partnered with E2Language to help Indian Students live their study abroad dreams

To improve the preparation eco-system we have launched Pearson Classroom, an online teacher-driven student success platform for high-stakes English exams.

Our aim is to address ‘educational institutions’ demand for online resources and deliver a one-stop solution for high-stakes English exam preparation. We are providing full access to the course materials, questions, language exercises, and practice tests.

This will help students prepare for Pearson PTE - and other high stakes exams - and go on to study abroad to realise their ambitions and dreams for the future.

  • Wish To Study In Canada In 2020? Follow These Three Steps

If you wish to attain a foreign education, it is natural for you to be feeling unclear about your future course of action. However, there is no reason for you to feel disheartened, especially if you had planned to study in Canada.

Canada is one of the most favoured education destinations for Indian students. In fact, in 2019, there were a total of 2,19,855 Indian study permit holders in Canada. It’s not shocking that India is ranked 1 in the list of study permit holders in the country. (Source: immigration.ca)

The country has once again lived up to its reputation. Due to the pandemic, Canada has put in place many guidelines to aid the interest of international students.

One of these measures that can be particularly beneficial is that Canada has recently stated that it will be accepting partially completed study permit applications in case an individual is unable to complete all the documentation due to the disruptions caused by the coronavirus. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will wait for applicants to complete these applications, instead of rejecting the applicant.  (Source: www.cicnews.com/) This is a hugely beneficial step for international students.

Aside from this, Canada has also made another reform that will allow international students to start their Canadian educational program through online platforms and still remain eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit. This is great for students and will prevent them from wasting valuable time.

However, even if you are unable to arrive in Canada by this fall because of the travel restrictions, many Canadian universities have stated that you can still take up your program online in India and continue the semester on campus once travelling becomes accessible.  Refer to the following links to know more about this.

Another measure taken by the Canadian government to help international students in the COVID times is that The Government of Canada is providing the Student Work Placement Program with $80 million to support post-secondary students in the country to find paid-work in their field of study.  (source: pm.gc.ca)

To make studying in Canada even more accessible for students, The Canada Student Loans Program (CSLP) has relaxed its eligibility requirements to allow more students to qualify for financial support. (source: canada.ca)

Having said that, there are a few steps that you can take to ensure smooth sailing for your dreams.

The first thing that you should do is check If your university has resumed the application process. If yes, then the most important thing to do would be to complete it as you usually would. This would allow you to attend your classes abroad without losing a year. Many universities in Canada have also extended their application period in order to aid international students. While many universities start their sessions in October, if the situation continues, they are expected to postpone their sessions to prevent international students from missing out. This is why it is recommended to continue the application process.

Another thing that you must remember is that English language proficiency tests are required for a study permit in Canada. In case you haven’t taken this test already, now would be an excellent time to complete this process even if the application process hasn’t resumed. Most PTE-A centres are now live and are functioning by following social-distancing norms and taking all necessary steps to allow applicants to pursue their dreams in a safe and secure manner.  PTE-A is accepted by 90% of universities and it’s valid for non-SDS visa applications, making it an excellent option for candidates.

To conclude a bonus tip would be to note that if universities start their term later, they will have to be swift in completing the syllabus. This would mean that you would have to be prepared to take up your curriculum at a fast pace. This is why it is essential to consider this extra time as a bonus opportunity to get a headstart in your academic journey. If you have time at hand, you can utilise this time to prepare for your course and learn a few of the basic concepts before actually starting the semester. This will help you adjust better and ease the transition as you start your term.  In the meanwhile, you can use this time wisely and take your PTE-A and set the way for a lucrative career ahead.

Indian students have shown a preference towards the UK and the number of Indian students went up by 93% in 2019, with as many as 37,500 Indian students receiving their study visa (source: gov.uk). The country is known for its diverse culture and welcomes a diverse group of students, making it an excellent choice for international students, looking to learn in an enriching environment.

Here is the list of top 10 universities preferred by Indian students; however, there are many excellent universities to choose from depending on your preferred course.

    • The University of Greenwich
    • The University of Central Lancashire
    • Coventry University
    • De Montfort University
    • University of Hertfordshire
    • The University of Warwick
    • The University of East London
    • University of Bedfordshire
    • The Nottingham Trent University
    • The University of Northumbria at Newcastle

The quality of education provided in the United Kingdom is respected all over the world. Students prefer to pursue their higher education in the UK because of the cultural and educational benefits it provides. So if you have high ambitions and career goals, the UK can be an excellent place to realize your dreams.

UK universities have also stepped up in times of COVID-19 and have already implemented a number of Covid-19 support services that can be beneficial for current and prospective international students.

To make the country more attractive for students, under the current rules, the UK is projected to set-up up a new "Graduate" visa route, commonly referred to as a post-study visa, for the 2020-21 intake to UK universities. Under these guidelines, the UK government is going to double its post-study visa offer from two years to four years (source: NDTV.com).

Apart from this, the UK Government has a list of approved tier 4 sponsors.  This list can be accessed here.

These guidelines enlist universities, pathway providers, and some private language schools & boarding schools. Generally, any institution on this list would require a UKVI test for the following programs:

    • All university programs below degree level require a PTE Academic UKVI test (foundation programs and pre-sessional courses)
    • Enrolling with a pathway provider: Kaplan, Cambridge Education Group, Into, Studygroup, Navitas make up 50% of the UK market. A full list can be found here.

If you’re confused about which test you need to take, here’s what you need to know.

You have to take PTE Academic UKVI if:

➔ You are going to take a below degree level (e.g. a Foundation program or professional English course)

➔ Your chosen institution is not a Tier 4 sponsor*

You can alternatively take PTE Academic if:

➔ Your institution is a Tier 4 sponsor*

➔ You wish to study at degree level or above

However, studying in the UK requires you to fulfill certain requirements, and taking a Secure English Language Test is one of them. Pearson PTE is recognized by 98% of the universities in the UK, giving candidates an excellent range of options to choose from.  This is a great option for candidates as the tests are scored through the latest AI technology, which makes them totally unbiased and free of human discretion. Through these tests, test-takers in India will now be able to get certified for UK work and study visa applications and turn their career goals into a reality.

  • Here’s Why You Should Consider Studying In Australia Post-COVID

Australia has always been one of the most favoured educational destinations for international students, and the support presented by Australia towards its international students has been incredibly impressive. This is reflected in the fact that the government of Australia assigns over $300 million (source: studyinAustralia.gov) for international students coming to pursue their higher education at Australian universities.

In light of the unprecedented situation that the world is going through, the Australian government has stepped up, continuing to take necessary measures to aid international students.

    • Recently the Australian government has made amendments in the immigration policy to help international students pursue their dreams of studying in Australia. These guidelines allow students to commence their semester online and state that online studies will be recognized for post-study visa applications.
    • Aside from this, the Australian government will also start granting visas to international students, so that when the borders reopen, students already have their visas and can head to their universities without any further ado.
    • Apart from this, students will be able to lodge a “further” student visa application, if they are unable to complete their studies within the validity period of their visa.

Such factors make it clear that student support is an essential part of Australian education, making it an excellent option for students wanting to pursue international education.

However, that’s not all. There are several other reasons why you should consider Australia as your study abroad destination. Let’s discuss a few of these in detail.

Work Opportunities While and After Graduation

Perhaps one of the most important factors to consider while choosing an international education destination is the work opportunities available for international professionals. Australia tops the list in this area by providing lucrative opportunities to graduates.

The Australian economy is growing at a growth rate of 2.7% every year, making it a stable market for professionals.

According to the Government of Australia’s Labour Market Information Portal, employment is projected to go up in 16 out of the 19 broad industries over the next five years, healthcare and social assistance industries recording the highest growth rate. (source: LMIP)

The latest guidelines of the country also make it easier for international students to take up part-time jobs in Australia and add value to their resumes even if they wish to head back to their home country upon graduation. International students in Australia are permitted to work for up to 20 hours per week when school is in session, and there is no set limit on the number of hours they can work on holidays.

The minimum wage in Australia is 17 dollars per hour and can help students cover a good portion of their expenses, including rent and groceries.

    Something for Everyone

Australian universities offer world-class education in a multitude of fields. It doesn’t matter what you major in; there is something for you in this country. Whether you’re studying Medicine or Mathematics, dance or drama, there is an Australian university for you.

For instance, the Australian National University offers over 750 course-combinations.  (Source: Australian National University) Moreover, if you study in Australia, not only will you be able to attend classes in the field of your major, you will also be allowed to broaden your spectrum by opting for offbeat courses that may not be available elsewhere.

However, some of the best courses to study in Australia are - accountancy, architecture, biomedical engineering, computer science and information technology, psychology and tourism and hospitality management.

    Easy PR Regulations

You can avail permanent residentship of Australia by applying for and being granted a permanent visa. This permanent visa allows you to stay and work in Australia for five years. After living in the country on a PR visa for three years, you can apply for citizenship.

  • Everything You Need To Know About the Post-Graduate Work Permit in Canada

One of the most significant considerations for any student while picking an international learning destination is the possibility and scope of attaining employment in the country. Often, when students head to a foreign country for higher education, they wish to gain some work experience, and this is why they prefer to go for options that allow them to extend their stay after completing their degree and take up employment. This is one of the reasons why Canada is a favoured learning destination for students all over the world. It welcomed over 642,000 international students last year. Indian students have also shown an increasing preference for Canada as a learning destination. In 2019, Canada approved over 4 lakh study permits of which 1.39 lakh or 34.5% went to Indian students (source: TimesOfIndia

Canada offers a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) that lets students extend their visas and stay in the country for up to 3 years upon graduating from a Canadian post-secondary institution.

While the length of your PGWP would depend on the length of your course, the most advantageous factor of a PGWP is that you do not need a job offer at hand to apply for this permit.

Eligibility Criteria for Attaining a PGWP (source: canada.ca)

    • A student must have graduated from a Canadian designated learning institution (DLI). However, students must note that not all DLIs make them eligible for a PGWP.
    • They must have taken a program that is longer than eight months.
    • Graduates must apply within 180 days of graduating or receiving a written confirmation from their university, stating that they have met the learning requirements of their program.
    • Graduates must have a valid study permit when applying for the PGWP.

    Validity Of PGWP (source: canada.ca)

As mentioned above, the validity of your PGWP would depend on the duration of your course. However, there are a few guidelines that you must know of.

If your program was longer than eight months and shorter than two years, you may receive a post-graduate work permit as long as the duration of your course. For instance, if your program was for ten months, you may be able to attain a PGWP for ten months.

If the duration of your program was longer than two years, you may receive a PGWP for the duration of 3 years.

Moreover, in case you have taken more than one program, you can attain a PGWP equivalent to the duration of both the courses combined.

Some More Noteworthy Facts around PGWP

If students are awarded a PGWP, they can be exempted from the Labor Market Impact Assessments (LMIA). (Source: cic.gc.ca/)

Applicants are allowed to work full-time in Canada after applying for their PGWP if their application was initiated before the expiration of their study permit.  (Source: cicnews.com

The following infographic will give you a quick recap.

A Post Graduate Work Permit is definitely one of the many advantages of studying in Canada. Through this permit, students can get a chance to attain relevant work experience and build a strong resume by achieving employment in Canada.
